Christian leaders denounced anti-ICE activists who disrupted a Sunday worship service at a Twin Cities church, calling for government action in response to the incident.
The protest occurred at Cities Church in St. Paul, where demonstrators were captured on video shouting at congregants during the service. Former CNN host Don Lemon, who accompanied the protesters, filmed the confrontation.
The National Faith Advisory Board amplified statements from Pastor Paul Chappell and Paula White, a senior adviser to the White House Faith Office, both of whom condemned the disruption.
White accused the activists of violating the FACE Act and urged the Department of Justice to pursue arrests. “We condemn the actions of Don Lemon and the group of activists who stormed Cities Church today in St. Paul, Minnesota,” she wrote. “Christians everywhere should demand that the Department of Justice arrest those who participated. We must protect religious liberty in this country.”
Chappell similarly called on federal authorities to investigate the incident and hold those responsible accountable. Speaking to his congregation at Lancaster Baptist Church in California, he emphasized the need to safeguard religious freedom.
Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, described the disruption as “unspeakably evil” and urged swift law enforcement action. In a statement, Mohler said the intrusion into the worship service amounted to a desecration of Christian worship and expressed concern for congregants who were traumatized, including children and youth.
